China is exploring the development of ultra-low energy building.  Ultra-low emission and green buildings not only contribute to energy saving and emission reduction, but also coin great economic benefits.  The green and energy efficiency technologies will bring a 1000 billion yuan’s market with the application of ultra-low energy consumption technologies to residential buildings, public buildings, multi-storey buildings and high-rise buildings.

National standard Technical standard for nearly zero energy buildings (GB/T 51350-2019) was officially implemented on September 1st, 2019 (The Standard).  The Standard firstly identifies the terms of zero energy buildings by national standard and proposes China solution based on China own development conditions.

Since 1980, China building energy efficiency experienced three stages of 30%, 50% and 65%, and gained a significant achievement of reducing heating energy consumption of residential buildings in severe cold and cold regions and public building energy consumption, as well as increasing the proportion of renewable energy application to buildings.

Released by Ministry of Housing and Urban-Rural Development of China, The thirteenth Five-year plan on building energy saving and green building development pointed out to actively develop ultra-low energy buildings and nearly zero energy building demonstrations and lead the upgrading of related standards, to achieve a goal of over 10 million SQMs of ultra-low and nearly zero building demonstrations by 2020.

More and more provincial governments launched related policies, technical guidelines and financial initiatives to promote the ultra-low energy building demonstration.

The ultra-low energy integrated community adopts not only passive building technology, but also sponge city, rainwater recycling, ecological self-repair technologies and intelligent control technology, so as to create a all new green and intelligent eco-community, including high-rise, multi-storey, school, commercial and residential buildings.
