As one of the cities hosting 2022 Winter Olympic Games, Zhangjiakou became one of clean heating demonstrations this year.

According to the plan, Zhangjiakou will deploy the complementary energy development of combined heating and power (CHP), large boiler heating, biomass CHP, electrical heating, gas heating, air- /geothermal-/water-source heat pumps heating during the period of 2018-2021, to expand the scale, popularity and scientific development of clean heating.

Zhangjiakou will promote centralized heating, distributed electrical heating and gas heating in urban area, and distributed heating and solar thermal storage heating in rural area, meanwhile, comprehensively improve the energy efficiency of new residential buildings, gradually push the energy retrofitting of old buildings and rural buildings.  By 2021, the clean heating will cover the whole urban area and over 40% of rural area.
