Co-released by Global Water Intelligence (GWI) and Grundfos, “2018 China sponge city construction white book” (The White Book) analyses the current situation of sponge city construction in China and proposes a creative, adaptable and inclusive roadmap to promote the further development.

The White Book selects Shanghai, Fuzhou, Tianjin, Guangzhou and Pingxiang as the pilots of sponge cities, shares the construction experiences in China and the world, proposes to build an intelligent sponge city by innovative financing mode, symmetric design, distributed scheme, continual operating and maintenance management and digitization.

City water environment system consists of multi-water system, drainage system and green ecological facilities.  The local solutions are difficult to satisfy the long term plan of comprehensive environment.  Therefore, transferring to top design will be helpful to controlling the water quality and preventing the potential risk.

With the rapid development of urbanization, the capacity of traditional drainage facilities has reached the limit.  How to distribute the central and large scaled drainage systems is very important to local rain collecting and purifying.

China officially launched sponge city pilots in 2015 and the number is 370 now, which is of significance to counter the water source challenge and reduce road water logging.
