Clean energy heating is of significance to optimize further energy consumption structure, decrease the level of air pollution and improve people's welfare.

By the end of 2017, cleaning heating areas in Qinghai was 147 MSqms, accounting for 38.7% of total heating areas in the Province, which reduced 9100 tons CO₂ emission.  Meanwhile, Qinghai government has encouraged multi resources utilization, such as shale gas, underground hot water, hot dry rock, gas hydrate and coalbed methane, which not only is the basis of clean heating, but also improve the people's living and environment quality.

According to local climate conditions, Qinghai utilized diverse clean energy, such as natural gas, geothermal, solar and waste heat, to satisfy the demands and perfect schemes.

The government launched initiatives to balance the high initial cost and operating cost, encouraged financial institutions to provide credit support and strengthened the cooperation between government and privates.  The heating enterprises can construct and retrofit with clean heating by market financing.

Moreover, the government will draft and update the technical and management guideline on solar energy, geothermal energy and air-source energy, introduce new technology, new process and new products to enhance heating efficiency and keep stable operation.

It predicts that by 2021, the heating areas will reach 456 MSqms in Qinghai Province, with 70% of clean heating areas to 320 MSqms.
