China Academy Institute of Communication and Telecom (CAICT) and Open Data Center Committee co-released “White Paper on Data Center”, which showed rapid development of China data center industry both in scale and installed capacity.  The revenue of internet data center (IDC) is at high speed increase, the overall deployment is gradually optimized and operation and maintenance (O&M) management is the focus of data center industry.

As statistics, the overall scale of China data center industry was at high growth rate since 2013.  By 2017, there were total 1844 of installed data centers and 463 of under construction.  The large data center is a majority, increased 68% when comparing 2017.

Driven by internet+, big data strategy and digital economy and mobile internet, China IDC revenue kept high speed development.  The total revenue reached about 65.04 billion yuan in 2017, with comprehensive annual growth rate (CAGR) of 32%.  With the cloud development, the percentage of cloud service will increase in the future.

In China, new data centers, especially large and huge scaled, are moving to the West and neighbor regions of Beijing, Shanghai and Guangzhou.  By 2017, the percentage of installed date centers in the West increased to22% of the national total from 20% in 2016.

Since 2010, China data center industry entered a high speed development channel with double growth rate of industry scale, which also brings the shortage problems of O&M technicians and ability.

With the rapid development of internet and cloud technology, international cloud giants accelerated their deployments in China mostly in cooperation mode, which will further intensify the domestic competition.
