Green buildings are blooming in China, with the accumulative green buildings labeling and green building areas reached 4,314 projects and over 500 million SQMs by June of 2016, respectively.  Post-evaluation for green building will benefit for green building’s sustainable development and impact its future.

Now, the existing standard “Evaluation standard for green building” is only focus on design and construction.  But post-evaluation will focus on an integrated effect of operation, occupant’s satisfaction and influencing factor of human behavior.

Looking at the development of China green buildings industry, the public was not aware or ignored the concept of post-evaluation during its initial stage in the early of 21 century.  Then, when understanding the whole life cycle of a green building, the post-evaluation is proposed.  As the development of green buildings in China, many researchers have studied post-evaluation concept and established a comprehensive system covering the whole life cycle including design, construction, operation, information feedback and waste disposal & recovery.

“Technical specification for operation and maintenance of green building” will be effective on June 1^st of 2017 which firstly establishes a comprehensive energy efficiency commissioning system, stipulates the key technologies and policies for operating and maintenance and sets up an evaluation index system, which will optimize the building operation and improve the manage level of green buildings.

In 2016, cooperating with other related institutes, Ministry of Housing and Urban-Rural Development of China (MOUHURD) has finished “Technical guideline of post-evaluation for green building” which including land saving and outdoor environment, energy saving and utilization, water saving and resource utilization, materials saving and resource utilization, indoor environment quality and operating management.

In generally, the green of a building depends on operating effect and post-evaluation is the key to promote green implementation.
