Taking a typical terminal building as an example, investigates the characteristics of the occupant density of terminal areas and the total occupant density of the airport terminal building. The results show that the occupant densities (rush hour) of different functional areas, such as check-in, security check and waiting areas, are approximately similar to the design values. The occupant densities of check-in hall and waiting hall are about 8.5 m2/person and 10.5 m2/person respectively, significantly lower than the design values obtained by the design densities statistically. It’s suggested that the discrepancy between design and actual occupant densities should be taken into consideration in designing the air conditioning system of an airport terminal. Appropriate design values should be determined according to the accumulated occupants served in different areas.
